Last night was the last Friday Night Writers before summer break. Thanks to John Dufresne for his guidance and patience and encouragement. John will be conducting a fiction workshop at the Taos Writers Conference July 12-18. http://www.johndufresne.com/ His terrific novel, Requiem, MASS comes out in paperback this summer as well.
This year's group placed 4 novels in the quarterfinals of the Amazon.com Breakout Novel of the Year contest, and one, Karen Kravits, advanced to the next round as well. That's an extraordinary accomplishment from any writing workshop. Two members were honored with Florida International University Creative Writing Awards also. Others have published in journals and online zines this year, and a couple are in negotiations with agents to kick things up a notch.
All seem able to hold their liquor, as an after-group trip to TGIFridays proved.
Tim Curtis brought up Leonard Cohen's new tour, so I put some YouTube vids on the blog, to the right. Congratulations also to Hector Duarte, who'll be leaving us to go to the excellent MFA program at George Mason University.
Now I have to find something to do during the summer, to make me keep to a schedule, so I don't stop and turn into a toadstool. We'll see what happens.

That IS an extraordinary accomplishment from a single writing workshop. Wow.
I just boxed up the signed copy of "Requiem" to send to the auction winner. I wanted to keep it so bad.
And Hector Duarte - I know that name! A regular contributor to the 'ol Tuesday Shorts.
