Rainy Day

In Miami the seasons change this way: you go to bed and there's a recording breaking dry spell drought, and you wake up and it's raining. It rains until November. The wet season replaces the dry season. The grass and trees and flowers thank you. Weeds are ecstatic. My yard is already showing patches of green returning. And I'm inside trying to remember where are all our umbrellas. We've haven't needed them in so long I have no idea where they might be.

I just finished 981 pages of Infinite Jest and 150 pages of footnotes. I would buy the rest of the 1700 pages they say made up the original manuscript. And read it all. I've never seen anything like this book. And the incredible humor. The vocabulary. tomorrow I'm heading to Books&Books for the DFW essay collection, A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again, which features the famous Harper's cruise-ship piece, the title essay, and probably The Broom of the System. I'd like to find the Denis Johnson Nobody Move book as well.

Let's see what the summer brings. I can't believe it's already Memorial Day coming.

Check out Steve Earle singing Rich Man's War in the video strip to the right.

perhaps I have Johnson's on the shelf . . . if not, perhaps a slightly different direction, Fiskadoro, lol. Love it. I know I have that.
