The traffic is way down now that school is out. Vandalism is way up, with all the bored kids with nowhere to go and so much time on their hands. And the schools here are all going broke, both public and private. The Catholic church is closing 14 schools, some of which have been open over 50 years. And the public colleges are discontinuing programs, including a nursing program that may change the life plans of over 30 thousand new and continuing students. A Speech Therapy program at FIU that has a Creole curriculum, the only one in the country, will be shut down.
Teachers don't get raises, kids don't get educated, and how the hell do you handle a class with 35 10 year olds in a room designed to accomodate 24?
Watch Colbert tonight, taped from Iraq. he gets a military haircut in solidarity with the troops:

Is anyone writing anything worthwhile? I know of more people giving up rather than forging ahead, always a bad sign. I feel it too. Comfortably numb.
